Event Details

This presentation will describe Dr. Stallings' journey as a psychologist working in public mental health, public schools, private practice, and now as private practitioner + elected official. Providing direct clinical and psychoeducational services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families led Dr. Stallings to quickly see the importance and relevance of public policy โ€“ and how public policy directly impacts individuals, families, and larger community systems. Dr. Stallings will share more details about her decision to run for public office, and describe her work as a former Apex Town Council member, and now currently, a Wake County Commissioner.

Participants will learn how local government roles, responsibilities, and decision-making can enhance the well-being of community members. Secondly, attendees will be provided with examples as to how psychologists as elected officials can help advance the practice of psychology. And finally, Dr. Stallings will discuss how psychologists can help shape public policy as elected officials.
